Liam Hendriks, the closer for the Chicago White Sox, recently received a Non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis, the experienced pitcher revealed on Instagram.
On Sunday night, Hendriks made his cancer diagnosis public. On Monday, he stated, he will begin his treatment.
Hendriks posted on social media, "Hearing the word 'cancer' came as a shock to my wife and I, as it does to millions of families every year.
"However, I'm determined to take up this struggle and beat this new obstacle with the same tenacity I've shown in overcoming prior challenges in my life.

"My treatment starts on Monday, and I'm optimistic that I'll heal completely and return to pitching as soon as possible.

Hendriks, 33, was chosen for his second consecutive All-Star game after posting a 4-4 record, 2.81 ERA,
and 37 saves in 58 appearances last season. In 69 appearances in 2021, the 12-year veteran went 8-3 with a 2.54 ERA and an American League-best 38 saves.
